Marco Sharpe is a poker player skilled in the art of deception. Maybe even an expert. Yet he’s also an expert on regret. As Marco mulls over his life one sleepless night in a Los Angeles casino hotel, he keeps coming back to one fateful day in southern Florida, years earlier.

Back then, Marco was a humble pool server at the Delano, just a young man with visions of a better life. His boss, the darkly cunning Ivan Parker, gave him the opportunity for just that. He would help Ivan and a few others in a “can’t-miss” chip-counterfeiting scheme. Looking back, Marco can pinpoint the exact moment his life changed forever—the very moment he agreed to get involved.

Ivan brings in the beautiful and seductive Teresa Reynolds and her poker-playing boyfriend Nate to help with the scheme. As events unfold, flashbacks and unconventional story structures reveal the secrets and obsessions Marco, Ivan, Teresa, and Nate are all desperate to hide deep within themselves—though a shocking twist in the scheme brings everything to the surface.

What may have started out a simple counterfeiting plan deepens into a dark psychological tale of theft, betrayal, and revenge.

I totally got into the characters. Waiting for this to be made into a movie. I would say the story is compelling even for folks who aren't into poker.

Soooooo good. Such a unique, brilliant writing style that forced me to keep reading page after page. I had chills run down my spine and then I’d laugh out loud a couple lines later. And when I went to bed, the characters haunted me in my dreams and I couldn’t get the story out of my head.
Great book!!! Interesting and complex characters intertwined in a thrilling story filled with twists and turns. I really appreciate the author's descriptive writing style, as I felt connected to the sights and sounds of the action throughout the entire read. Looking forward to his next story!
I love stories that take you into a completely different world and this one delivered! Going into the minds and lives of these characters in the poker world was absolutely fascinating. Even more than the stories of the characters, was the detailed and intricate account of the dark, raw, and quasi-animalistic traits we all possess. The poker world was a perfect platform to explore those traits like no other context or story I've read. But don't worry... it's not all dark casinos! The humor and wit laced throughout has you laughing out loud the whole way through as well!
I am not a voracious reader but picked up Eric's book for a long journey to Asia and I could not put it down....always a great sign of a captivating book, in my eyes! This book was so well written with humor and wit that I enjoy so much when reading a book, plus an intriguing story that kept me wanting more to see how it all would come together in the end......which it did so well! So many books leave me disappointed in the end but this story had such an interesting plot twist that I came away relieved and satisfied in the end. Can't wait to see what this author puts out next!
I'm not a voracious reader; I was as a student, but as a middle-aged guy I tend to stick to technical stuff rather than fiction. This read was an exception, and |I'm so glad I did. It was fun, compelling, and as I spent my teen years living in Vegas with my dad -- an Italian mobster/grifter type from South Philly -- the speaker's voice is very familiar. There's an intelligence here that transcends academic prowess, and gives the reader an insight into the wolfish mind of professional manipulator. If you're a reluctant reader, as I am, you may be surprised at how quickly you will get hooked.
Absolutely amazing book! Great plot as well as excellent intelligent, witty, funny, charming characters that are really easy to fall in love with! Entire read will keep you on the edge wandering what will their next step be, will they succeed or perhaps not? As you get to know each one of them you find out why did they turn out to be as they are and why they play the role that they play and you find yourself rooting secretly for they to succeed. Writing is brilliant and Eric as an author has brought a next level of excellence to the table for the reader; I would dare to possibly compare him to Dan Brown with his intelligence, quick wit and plot development as well as a success to fully engage a reader entire time. I would highly recommend this book as a great fast developing plot read and it will be very hard waiting for next one to come into my hands!I hope that you have as much enjoyment & fun reading it as I did! Cheerio!
You need to read this. I’m a professional poker player myself so I can relate to every word the author writes about the game—and he completely nails every detail. But it’s about so much more than poker. All the shady characters thinking all their shady thoughts but acting a different way the whole time. I can’t remember the last time I had so much damn fun reading a book.
I totally got into the characters. Waiting for this to be made into a movie. I would say the story is compelling even for folks who aren't into poker.
